Scope and Purpose

This is the user guide for ControlTier Commander. It covers everything you need to know to start using Commander to execute commands, create simple command modules and manage a multi-tier application.

The User guide is organized into several sections, each focusing on related tasks and will help teach you best practices and skills:

  • Getting Started: Provides a conceptual overview, introducing key terms, and introduces the Commander framework and commands.
  • Tutorial: Uses a sample application to describe the typical workflow of using Commander to manage a multi-tier application.
  • Basic Techniques: Describes various tasks to using Commander to find what is currently managed, creating management commands and configuration file management.
  • Advanced Techniques: Describes in more depth how to write model-driven commands, as well as, creating new command modules.

To use this guide you need to be familiar with creating and editing objects in Workbench, and executing shell commands.

Conventions

Constant width typeface is used to denote code and shell commands. Bold constant width is used in some code listings to highlight important or changed sections.
